The retina is a delicate membranous structure that covers the internal face of the eyeball. This photosensitive layer makes the various types of visual function possible. Retina pathologies affect 20% of the population.
Institut Oftalmològic Santa Creu has the technology and specialist ophthalmologists for the diagnosis and treatment of all retina diseases.
Retina and vitreous disorders
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
Diabetic retinopathy
Pathological short-sightedness
Retina detachment
Posterior vitreous detachment
Epiretinal membrane
Macular hole
Arterial and venous occlusive disease
Central serous choroidopathy
Retina treatments
Thanks to important advances in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases, we can obtain better visual results in our patients.
The two main groups of treatment for these pathologies are intraocular injections and surgery.
INTRAOCULAR INJECTION TREATMENTS
Intraocular injections, done with a thin needle and topical anaesthetic, allow the medication to reach much greater intraocular levels than the traditional way. This fact, together with the new medication used (corticosteroids, anti-VEFG. etc.), has meant a significant breakthrough in the treatment of AMD and vascular diseases of the retina.
SURGERY
Surgery, as with retinal detachment treatment, vitreomacular traction syndrome, etc., has also experienced continuous progress thanks to the incisions and use of increasingly smaller instruments; something that, no doubt, affects the visual recovery, which is much faster.
